Kabak Hakkında Resim

Welcome to Kabak Bay, one of Fethiye's unspoiled beauties! This is a place that offers its visitors an unforgettable escape with its turquoise waters surrounded by pine forests, its bohemian spirit, and unique atmosphere. As BayKabak.com, we are ready to guide you in exploring this unique bay in all its detail.

The Enchanting Nature of Kabak Bay

Kabak is truly a natural wonder. Pine and sandalwood trees cascade down steep green slopes to meet the clear waters of the Mediterranean. When you close your eyes here, the only things you'll hear are the sounds of waves, cicadas, and birdsong.

  • Flora and Fauna: The bay is particularly famous for its endemic plant species and butterflies. Colorful flowers and fragrant herbs will accompany you on your walks.
  • On the Lycian Way: Kabak is also an important stop on the world-famous Lycian Way. It offers countless routes and breathtaking views for nature hiking and trekking enthusiasts.
  • Aladere Waterfall: If you're up for a bit of adventure, you can follow the path starting from within the bay to reach Aladere Waterfall and cool off in its icy waters.

Turquoise Waters and a Peaceful Beach

The sea of Kabak Bay is, true to its name, crystal clear and turquoise. Its generally pebbly beach stands out with its tranquility and natural beauty.

  • Swimming and Sunbathing: The sea is usually calm and waveless, making it ideal for swimming. Instead of finding sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, you lay out your own towel and enjoy nature.
  • Silence and Serenity: Kabak is the perfect place to get away from noisy beach parties, relax, and read your book.

A Bit of History: Ancient Traces and Recent Past

Kabak Bay and its surroundings bear traces of the ancient Lycian civilization. Its proximity to the village of Faralya (Uzunyurt) and its location on the Lycian Way indicate that the region has a history spanning thousands of years. However, what truly makes Kabak "Kabak" is its "rediscovery" in the more recent past.

The Hippie Past and Bohemian Spirit

Discovered in the 1970s and 80s by backpackers and "flower children," Kabak Bay has since become a symbol of freedom, life intertwined with nature, and alternative holidays. This "hippie" spirit still permeates the bay's atmosphere today:

  • Rustic and Authentic: Instead of luxury hotels, wooden bungalows, campsites, and yoga studios dominate.
  • Simplicity and Naturalness: A simple, unpretentious lifestyle is embraced. People here walk around in comfortable clothes, often barefoot.
  • Sense of Community: Gathering around a campfire in the evenings to chat and make music is still a part of Kabak culture.

A Must in Kabak: The Culture of Respect

Preserving the unique atmosphere of Kabak Bay is the shared responsibility of both visitors and local businesses. "Respect" is the keyword here:

  • Respect for Nature: Please take your trash with you or dispose of it in designated areas. Do not harm plants or animals.
  • Respect for Silence: Avoid loud conversations and music, especially in the evenings and in accommodation areas. Remember, many people come here to find peace.
  • Respect for Local Life: The businesses and residents in the bay strive to protect this natural beauty. Be respectful of their rules and way of life.
  • Respect for Each Other: In this place where people from different walks of life come together, tolerance and understanding are essential.

Facilities in the Bay and Little Details

Kabak Bay is not a fully-fledged holiday resort, and that's part of its charm. What you need to know:

  • Tiny Grocery Stores: There are about 5 small grocery stores (bakkals) in the bay where you can meet your basic needs. These are usually part of campsites or some businesses.
  • Prices: Prices at grocery stores located near the beach or belonging to more popular establishments might be slightly higher than those at the entrance of the bay or further up. This is due to transportation costs and location.
  • Basic Products: You can find items like water, snacks, basic food items, and sunscreen in these stores. However, for very specific or large purchases, you might need to go to Fethiye center.
  • Carry Cash: Not every establishment in the bay may accept credit cards, so it's a good idea to have some cash on you. The nearest ATMs are in Ölüdeniz or Fethiye center.
  • Internet and Phone: Most campsites and businesses offer Wi-Fi, but connection speed can vary. The phone signal strength of some operators may not be consistent throughout the bay.

Kabak Bay is not just a holiday destination; it's a way of life and a state of mind. If you want to embrace nature, disconnect from technology for a bit, and listen to yourself, Kabak is waiting for you. At BayKabak.com, we are happy to help you plan this unique experience.
